Oma

Posted by Mummy Dearest on Mar-31-2003

If I had been able to post this morning, I would have told of the major state of procrastination that I seem to be caught in. For example, I still haven’t booked our tickets for this summer.

One reason I have been putting that off was that today was the day that the results of the tests for cancer on Oma would come in. Well, The Father went with his parents to the hospital, but for some reason the tests were inconclusive. So she will be redoing the tests this week and receiving the results next Monday.

The other reason I have been hesitating in booking a flight is, well, this war. I can’t seem to decide how great the risk is that the kids and I will be blown up mid-air on our way to the states.

I guess that I will put it all off until next week. I can’t really imagine the airlines being fully booked for flights to the States this summer, can you ?

New Vocabulary

Posted by Mummy Dearest on Mar-31-2003

A short while ago, I was complaining about the fuzzy language being used in this war.

While not exactly listing the various euphemisms in use, Verbal Jam’s pocket dictionary of Iraqi-War jargon for the home front does come in quite handy when trying to decipher what one is hearing on the news.

You are kindly requested to keep in mind the slightly satirical undertone and peaceful purpose of this list.

A Message From the Powers That Be

Posted by Mummy Dearest on Mar-31-2003

While I was out in the land of incommunicado, I received a letter reporting on the first A.K.I.B. shareholders meeting. I was asked -very politely, I assure you-to bring up a few topics.

First, let me remind all of you Feral Living fans that Feral Living has moved to the Kafka-themed metamorphosism. Update your links !

Secondly, did you know that U.D.N. not only contains posts in Flemish and English, but every once and a while a post in French. I can think of certain UK Francophiles who might enjoy that. Or take it a step further : learn Flemish ! It’s fun !

And lastly, let me apologize to a few shareholders : I’m sorry, I will either get a new camera or stop putting photos up. I never meant to hurt your eyes.

I Am ….

This is much more fun than housework !

Well, what isn’t ?

Note

Posted by Mummy Dearest on Mar-28-2003

I have to clean the house today, an occupational hazard when one is a ‘ housewife’.

She-who-has-a-cat-that-matches-her-decorating-scheme is coming over tonight, so the pressure is on.

I most likely can be found today leaving comments here and there.

A Question ?

Posted by Mummy Dearest on Mar-27-2003

Does anyone recall how that goes with converting women’s shoe sizes into men’s shoe sizes ( American sizes ) ? I seem to recall something like a women’s size 6 is a men’s size 5. Does that sound right ?

‘Bel
has actually found a place that sells those old fashioned sort of huaraches .

But the ones I like are only available in the ‘men’s department’.

Of course, she knew the correct way to spell the word ‘ huaraches ‘, which is why she could find them and I never could.

Drawings

Posted by Mummy Dearest on Mar-27-2003

I just put up some ‘before and after’ drawings of the house here.

I spent the whole morning trying to fix my scanner ( of course, it took me an hour to figure out that something was wrong ), so I had to try and take pictures of the drawings . You know, with my camera that is dying ( no, I haven’t replaced it yet. I’ve been hit by an attack of the cheapies.)

To give an idea of the size, the house is about 8 or 9 meters across the back, and the large building that you see next to us is a three-story apartment building. Which we hope they will pull down one day.

Yes, that is an ‘in your dreams’ scenario.

( There are more over on the left…or is it the right ? If I stick out my hand, it’s the left….)
