Michael’s House
Posted by Mummy Dearest on Jan-25-2004

The other day, I needed another book to read. So, I went up to the lovely bookcases that Mr.Jo made for me in the hallway ( the gate – by the way- doesn’t bother me at all anymore) and picked something out to read.
Later on in the evening, as I settled down to read, a handful of photographs- snapshots- fluttered out of the book. This was one of them.
After a certain amount of detective work and after a certain amount of years, my father was able to find the home that his grandfather- Michael- left behind when he took off for America. And this is a picture of it ( alway makes me think of Dad saying ‘…descended from Kings…’).
And it’s one of those things that I have no idea what to do with, in any way.

Sue its amazing ,where is it ?where is your family from…my fathers father was from Cornwall in Wales and left to go mine the mines in the upper pennisula of Michigan and my moms mom was
from here in Holland altho i dont know the city…
maybe you could frame it and put it in a specail place in “your little room” …. my gosh it looks so peaceful… there was just a show on BBC prime
called… A Man and his Sheepdogs and the area looked something like that… any way I love the
pic… nice find
Julie, it’s a village/ town called Clifden, in Ireland.
I suppose you are right, though. For some reason, I hold all of the old family photos and used to have them hanging in our hallway. When we get around to re-hanging them, I should put this one up as well.
Ireland … Id love to visit there … as well as
Scotland and ofcourse Wales too.. beautiful country with alot of history … I love to watch all the shows about the land there so pretty…I love the outdoors … wind in the face .. haaaha
Clifden! I love the Conemara Peninsula. We visited Clifden in ’97. Beautiful town. I wish I could go back, but with #4 on the way, I think it will be a long time before I see Ireland again. I’ve copied the picture to show my sister who is an artist. Some of her best landscapes are from her trips to Ireland. Thanks for sharing.
P.S. It’s amazing how those kings lived
Levelle, my Dad drives me nuts with his ‘descended from kings’bit. I bite my lip and think: look at the house, pops…
