At the quarter hour, the carillon in town plays a 12 note tune.

Translated, the lyrics would read : ‘m not afraid of the big bad wolf, not afraid.

An odd choice, don’t you think ?

  1. Karan Said,

    I love that!

  2. Edwinek Said,

Indeed! I couldn’t imagine why a church tower should have to be afraid of a big bad wolf. Does it always play that or does the tune change from time to time? It would be a nice bit of local history to find out why?

  3. sue Said,

Edwin, these bells are on the old city hall ( which is now a *visitor’s center* ). They do change the tunes, but not often enough. For months around Christmas, they played a bit from a Sinterklaas song ( …maar ik zie hem niet), then we moved on to the first line of the Wilhelmus: Wilhelmus van Nassouwe ben ik van Duitsen bloed.

I’m guessing that they change the tunes 3-4 times a year. But if you actually live in town, next to those bells, for 24 hours a day, hearing the same tune every 15 minutes gets tiresome.
