Dante’s Family

Posted by Mummy Dearest on Oct-4-2005

The last few weeks, The Boy has spent a lot of time playing The Sims, the version that includes Sims University. He has gone through about four generations of the same family and I have followed their saga carefully. Whether I wanted to or not.

The other day, he called me into his room because a baby was about to be born. As the symbol for great joy appeared, The Boy started whispering a boy ! a boy! . He whooped aloud when the baby was indeed a boy. And what a cutie, he said.

It was at about this time that I realized that if anything went wrong with this program, The Boy would be very upset. Very, very, very upset. If his family went into that great black hole of software malfunctions, he would be crushed.

Here we are, two days later. He cannot get the taxi to come. His eyes filled with tears, he tells me that if he cannot get the taxi to come, they will die.

I haven’t a clue as to what I should say, but am very aware of the fact that saying, uh, it’s just a game is not the right answer.

Instead, I hold out hope : The Girl knows all kinds of cheats for The Sims, maybe she can save his family.

He doubts it. But it is the only bone that I have at this moment.
