Lucy

While I know very well that it encourages a rather Lucy Ricardo behavior, I took The Girl shopping today.

Oh, does she like shopping.

This was not as altruistic as it sounds, for I had a fierce craving for some Leonidas chocolate ( didn’t buy it), and my soul craved an outing that did not entail shopping for groceries.

Plus The Father received a 50 euro gift card from a rather ritzy store ( Bijenkorf) which sells the pricey jeans that The Girl Loves, loves, loves.

And I told The Girl that she could use the card.

8 jeans and one hour later : no sale, too low, too big, too small.

On the bus ride to The Big City, I stared out of the window, as I usually do. A few days before, The Baby and I had seen a large ( 30- 40) flock of swans flying overhead, and they are taking a break now on the fields just right out of town. I looked for them, and there they were, out to the right.

The Girl talked to me, telling me about Hunka. If she were older, I would be even more frightened, although I told her, gee, this is kinda scary, dontcha think ? He had told her that he did not want her going to The Big City anymore, not without him. In fact, she told me, he was so jealous that if a boy even looked at her, bam.

Oh, I suppose that I have read too many books about husbands who kill their wives, wives who are abused…

I just said, oh, kinda scary ?

We bought a warm stroopwafel for her, one of those things that we have done forever, when we come to The City.

After a very difficult time, I find myself once more in love with my first born. Oh, I have always loved her, but now I am back to that overwhelming love that one experiences when one sees that first baby for the first time.

Whitney Houstin, singing I will always love you.

  1. Karan Said,

    I’m so glad.

  2. Catherine Said,

    Hooray.

  3. Mary Curtin Said,

    So happy!

She’s definitely better off without him.

  4. cindy Said,

“After a very difficult time, I find myself once more in love with my first born. Oh, I have always loved her, but now I am back to that overwhelming love that one experiences when one sees that first baby for the first time.”

That brought a tear to my eye, as I remember when the feeling first felt lost, and because I understand it so well.
