I find myself watching football once again, with The Boy. Ars- Barc.

Of course, I am for Arsenal, of course, he is for Barcelona. And I know that he is right, but I am still rooting for Arsenal, where is Bergkamp these days, I ask ? I have not watched football for a long, long time.

He has told me not to say that I found Arsenal worthless this evening, even though I really wanted them to win. They were helpless. I am so out of the loop, I kept having to ask, the guys in the red are Arsenal, right ?

Look at all of those yellow guys, where are the red guys ? They can never score, there is no one to pass to.

I think that my only redeeming quality when it comes to watching football is that unlike a dog ( the dogs always watch football) I can say something.

It is not bright, it is not astute, but, hey, I am better then a dog.

  1. Catherine Said,

You came close to spotting what happened – they let 22 Barcelona players onto the pitch, and only the regular 11 for Arsenal! I can’t believe that the referee allowed the game to go ahead.

Thank you for supporting our hapless, hopeless, helpless boys – got to hand it to them for sticking in there. Next time I see The Boy, he will be getting a Very Dark Look indeed from me.

Last I knew, Dennis Bergkamp was working with the Ajax youth team. He also appears on my pyjamas from time to time – which makes him sound like a vision of the Virgin Mary, but actually means that there is a picture of him on a t-shirt that Kevin bought me for Christmas which I sometimes wear to bed.

  2. Mummy Dearest Said,

Barcelona’s defense was so very good. The Boy really admires Arsenal as well, but he admires Barcelona more. He is in this I like Spanish ( Cuba, Mexico) phase. He told me where Denis is, he knows a lot. Why he wants me to watch football with him is beyond me. I am brain dead about football. Someone had to keep the kids quiet for the last 17 years so Daddy could watch in peace.

We did look for you, however. She has a seat, you know…

    It really looked cold there.

Next lookup, who has the biggest stadium in Europe. I am thinking Milano, he is thinking Barcelona. He is probably correct, he usually is with things like this.

  3. Mummy Dearest Said,

    Dear Miss Catherine,
If i’m honest and correct one of the reasons why Arsenal is doing so well was a Dutchman Robin van Persie…and Barcelona has a Ajax tint with guys like Cruijf, van Gaal, and many other ex-Ajax players.
Besides Barcelona is the most successful club of the past decade, they play great football.
I’m giving all of my hopes to Arsenal for the return but its gonna be tough.
    Mike

  4. Catherine Said,

    Dear Sue,

Barcelona’s defence were terrific weren’t they, and their midfield, and their attack… What was good to see from Arsenal was – in that ridiculously unbalanced first half – everybody mucked in to defend. Arsenal’s defensive weaknesses have lost them a lot of points this season.

Kevin was there! It was cold

    Dear Mike,

You are absolutely right, Arsenal really miss van Persie – although it is not unusual for him to be in the treatment room rather than on the pitch. Thanks very much for your kind thoughts for the return – it really is going to be tough, isn’t it? It seems that – horror – Arsenal might just not be as good as Barcelona…

    All the best,

    Catherine
